"New NHL Study Suggests Athletes Should Drink Water to Avoid Dehydration"
That’s actually incorrect. If they are sweating or eliminating water from their body they are also flushing out electrolytes and other essentials. These can lead to headaches, light headed, weak, no energy, etc. they need to add some type dehydration mix like Nuun To the water. Pickle juice also works as it also adds vinegar, plus yellow mustard works.

The Devils whacked Kevin Dineen as head coach of AHL Utica. The Comets have started 0-8-0-1 and have been outscored 40-16. Assistant Ryan Parent takes over on an interim basis. Dineen was in his 4th year in Utica.

The NCAA Division I council approved a rule change that will allow CHL players to play college hockey. Per the NCAA, the new rule “would enable prospects who participate in major junior ice hockey or on professional teams to retain NCAA eligibility as long as they are not paid more than actual and necessary expenses as part of that participation.” What that means to players signed to NHL contracts and loaned back to CHL teams is unknown.

It could cause problems for the USHL, BCHL, etc. where players wanting to play college hockey have traditionally played. They’re not considered major junior leagues and don’t pay the players a stipend. Jackson Blake and Scott Morrow came out of the USHL while Bradly Nadeau played in the BCHL before going to college.

It’s a pretty raw deal for some kids by all accounts. My best friend in Canada has a son playing in JWillys hometown of Cobourg with the Cougars in the OJHL…most of those kids would have a legit shot at a D1 scholarship coming out of the OJHL…this new rule change will see tons of 2/3/4 year seasoned CHL players go on to D1 schools to try and build super D1 powerhouses. I just don’t see how this is healthy other than the fat cats in NCAA D1 programs. All of this started over one simple lawsuit…can’t help to think that the CHL teams will also take a hit and of course CIS university teams in Canada also use to rely heavily on aged out CHL kids to fill their hockey programs.

Ya, D1 is growing, but not at the pace they'd need to absorb these kids that may get shut out now.
There are 64 NCAA Division I hockey programs, with Tennessee State becoming the 65th next year. Another 84 play D III.

Players that have signed their NHL contract and gotten their signing bonus probably won’t be eligible, the rule says that they can only be compensated for actual and necessary expenses. This is going hit the Canadian provincial leagues and the US Tier I and II leagues hard.

Yeah, this is one of those sea changes that's going to be tough to judge until a good decade has gone by. I'm not convinced that Canadian major junior is a healthy environment for personal development, even if it's very good for hockey development, so I'm inclined to be initially in favor of seeing more top prospects go the US college route ... but I'll absolutely wait to make any real judgements.

Agreed. No longer do kids have to make the all-or-nothing decision about playing Canadian major junior or D-I college hockey.

At the end of the day, I'm a big fan of freedom of choice. With two very different development paths available, I'm pretty sure it's going to be better in the long run for guys to have more freedom to find the right option for them as individuals. And now if they feel like they're on the wrong road, they have more of an off ramp.

That said, in ten years this could all prove to have been terrible for the game. Who freaking knows?

The Hockey Hall of Fame announced that David Branch and Mike Gartner are rotation off the selection committtee as their terms end. They’re being replaced by Jarome Iginla and Ed Olczyk. Ron Francis has been named chair of the committee. His term on the committee ends next year.

On a related HHOF note, The Athletic did a great story on why Mogilny continues to be bypassed year after year by that committee…an excellent in-depth article and analysis for anyone that missed it.

There are three or four things I like to always do in the morning…walk the dog, make coffee, make my kids breakfast and open up my IPad to The Athletic app!!!

The dismantling of the Pens has started. They traded Lars Eller to Washington for a 2025 5th and a 2027 3rd. Eller has 4 goals, 3 assists in 17 games, averaging 16:25 ice time.

All of the Pens top stars have No Movement clauses, including Bryan Rust. We will see if any of Malkin, Letang, Karlsson or Rust have any interest in allowing the Pens to explore trade options. Otherwise the Pens can't fully rebuild other than messing around the edges like this trade.

I think it was the Athletic that reported Kyle promised Crosby they'd make another run at it if he re-signed, and I really don't see how they do that in earnest.
