2024-25 Premier League Thread

Obviously you're happy that you crush a team rather than just barely beat them or worse, but I don't think I'd take much away from this if I were a Spurs fan other than that Everton are god awful and they better hope they don't get any more points deductions this year, cause I don't think they're overcoming them this time.

Yeah, mostly disappointed with that ten minute stretch in the second half, because otherwise that was two really even teams having good old go at one another.

Everton threw away 3 points today against Bournemouth, going from 2-0 up at 87 minutes to a 3-2 loss. I thought I saw that they’re the first team in the Premier League era to finish consecutive Augusts at the bottom of the table.

Declan Rice with an absolutely brain dead 2nd yellow cost Arsenal 2 points against Brighton. He’ll miss the North London Derby after the break.

Devastating loss on a few levels, outplayed them pretty handily….but uncanny how demonstrably Van de ven and Solanke specifically would have been enormous today.

Played it safe with both of them with the international break coming and giving them added time to get healthy before the NLD….but if they play, we win this going away.

Frustrating 3 points to throw away, against a team that could make it more of a 6pt loss by seasons end……i’ll be stewing over this one for the next two weeks, 😆

Gotta say, as satisfying as today's 3-0 win over United was, I think it says more about how far off the pace they are from the top teams, more than it says about our status as contender.

The amount of pundits picking united and Chelsea to finish high and even top four makes me scratch my head. United were a bottom half team last season that got unbelievably lucky to finish where they did. They had a decent transfer window, but not going from should have finished 13th to being a top four contender good. Chelsea are just a mess with no clear vision as a franchise other than to bring in as many players as possible. They're like me when I play franchise mode in soccer video games signing every young high upside player I can.

To me Chelsea have always reminded me of Francis Buxton from Pee Wee’d Big Adventure, who just has his father buy him absolutely everything he wants.

Having all the best toys isn’t enough….he also wants them in duplicate.

I don't understand how almost everyone is picking both of them to finish above Villa despite the fact that we just finished forth, have Unai Emery who pretty much is agreed as the second best manager in the prem behind Pep, and had a really logical window in which we added a lot of depth and size. I'm far more worried about Newcastle who don't have the extra champions league matches this season than I am either of those misfit squads.

Newcastle do look like real trouble. I get the Chelsea thing after watching them play a couple of times, though. If you squint and ignore the legion of senior team guys training with the youth, there's a lot there and Maresca has them playing a recognizable system WAY quicker than their last couple of bosses managed to do. That said, their dynamic is just so weird that I'd have a hard time sticking my neck out and presuming it's all going to hold together. Especially after the way they've melted into a pile of goo once winter hit the last couple of years.

Leicester won their appeal of a Profitability and Sustainability Rules decision that could have led to a point sanction. An independent appeals board reversed the Premier League’s decision. However, it looks like it’s a unique situation; Leicester argued that they weren’t subject to Premier League PSRs, since they were relegated prior to the conclusion of the assessment period that ended June 30, 2023.
