2024 Free Agent Frenzy

Victor Hedman signs an extension with Tampa, 4 years, $8 million. It’s a modest increase from his current deal at $7.88 million.
That takes Hedman to 38 years old by the end of the term. I was thinking it was team friendly until I realized how much he's likely to slow down over the last 2-3 years. Tampa is really is trying to squeeze every last drop out of that championship group, but for all they've done this summer they're still a one forward line, 1.5 D pairing team hoping that Vasilevskiy can bounce back just so they can stay a playoff team for those last 3 years of Kucherov's deal.

FWIW, they get back to a normal, clean slate draft pick list in 2026 ... provided they can avoid the temptation of any more deadline day days in the meantime.

The Blues made 2 trades, getting forward Radek Faksa from the Stars and forward Mathieu Joseph and a 2025 3rd rounder from Ottawa for Future Considerations. They must have had a stockpile of them. Faksa is headed into the last year of his contract at $3.25 million. Joseph has 2 years left at $2.95 million.
