2024 NHL Playoffs Thread

Trade for Saros?

Ship Montembault and extra D/picks. They are bringing up Askarov anyway - so they get reliable back up + assets.

We get a better #1 goalie for the emerging window - extend for 5 years? If cap hit is acceptable (???), we have a top flight guy to backstop our emerging D. Fowler gets to develop.

We have so many goalies, I don’t see the point in trading for a 5’11 one, one year away from free agency, even if we can extend him. We’re pretty set for quality cheap goaltending for years.

That’s the logical counter argument, for sure. I probably wouldn’t do it, but he is pretty damn good (though maybe a taller goalie makes that save.) He‘d likely better than any of our goalies for the next few years.

That said, I think we’re set in net next year. But Saros will likely get moved, and he’s the 2nd best option after Markstrom. Interesting hypothetical.

Yeah nothing against Saros but we’re not a goaltender away from anything and we have depth at that position for years to come. Keep our assets and cap space for forwards, and keeping our young Ds.

Fowler doesn’t need a decade to develop.
