It would be different if we didn’t have Nylander signed, but having 3 top 10 cap hit forwards has already prevented us from building the depth needed to overcome the fact that none of these guys score in big games for 7 years.

Well, this really only mattered when we were under tighter constraints of a lower cap and had Tavares at $11m, neither of which is the case anymore.
Having a higher cap with a cheap Tavares makes it a lot easier to pay Marner, especially if he's going to take a contract similar to Willy's and not demand something similar to Matthews'.
Nope no issue paying for the right mix

Paying Marner is the same thing as paying Tavares. Nylander only made top money one year.
Paying 3 forwards top 10 cap hits doesn’t work. We know this.

I'd be fine with it if they were all centers. Even 2 of 3 is fine. But when 2 are wingers... Ehhh not gonna work.

In fairness, it wasn't really the same result this year.
For one thing, it was the core's first time finishing first. They won the first round. They took an amazing team to 7 games in the second round.
Sure, a loss is still a loss, but as far as losses go - and don't get me wrong, the nature of the 6-1 smashing at home is a concern - by all accounts, this was a tangible improvement. And if Florida loses a couple of key guys like Bennett and Marchand without adequately replacing them next year, they may drop a level and make advancing that much more achievable, especially if we've improved the team and don't have the same impactful injuries (Matthews, Stolarz).

I don't follow. We'd be going from 4 guys making $11m+ to 3 guys making $11m+ with the fourth guy still and money to spare for Knies.
So, instead of 4 at that price, now we're getting 5 of them at that price. Granted, we had them all this year, but keeping the core and adding a signed Knies will cost us the same hit, with Cowan potentially being another Knies next year, and with the cap going up and some other dumpable shit (Kampf, Krok, etc.) to free up some room.

We had 3 forwards making $11 mill for 6 of the last 7 years. Last year was the only year with 4.
3 didn’t work either.

I think it's 45% he stays, 55% he leaves.
And if he stays, either we have the same shit but worse next year if we lose again and then Tre gets dumped, or we break through and Tre is celebrated for his patience.
Only two possible outcomes.

No it won’t. Salary’s are going up but every team is not to going to have 3 of their highest paid forwards in the league, and the two highest paid wingers.
Matthews makes 13 now, Marner will get 13+, their getting the inflation too.
