2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

I think last year the team figured they could make Keefe the scapegoat and act like everything was fine.

This year that's probably going to be Marner, shit, Shanahan might get a new deal.

Tavares' base is 5M, and there are going to be a horde of teams offering in the 2/15 range i think.

There is a realistic possibility that they will take that final step forward and win, and then everyone here will say thank heavens they were smart enough to stick with it.

He can get more than that even. I’m saying he should go lower to stay. Do everything in his power to take an amount that lets the team get as improved as possible.

Yeah I think this feels like it may be a crazy cheap deal.

With respect, as much as the Leafs dont owe Tavares a market deal for numerous reasons he doesn't owe them or anyone else fuck all in terms of taking below market value for a non cup contending team. He's well within his rights to take the 2/15 deal from a team like Montreal, Anaheim or whoever that thinks his services can help bridge them to a playoff team or a slightly better playoff team.

He'd be insane to take 3M

It’s not about owing. It’s about wanting to stay and make the most of the next couple of years after just having made $77m USD.
