2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

I'm still so confused about this injury. No wrapped wrist like we've seen in other years, no grimacing, never looked to be in much pain. Either it's a stiff ass back (which would impact everything, as Matthews said it did and we could see that it did), or cock cancer.

I don’t know how he explains his failures in prior postseasons, and it was stupid to not shut down for part of the year and especially miss 4 Nations, but if he’s admitting there was something hampering all aspects of his play this year, he robbed us of the chance to get to the third round.

Does a healthy Matthews win that series before game 7? We’ll never know and now may lose Marner because he wasn’t, which ironically means Matthews’ decision to play through it basically ended up writing his buddy Marner’s ticket out of town.

this is likely true. I've been numb all year. which prevented me from emotionally investing like I normally do. which meant no real super emotional hot takes the past couple days. just fucking resignation.

pretty sure I said last offseason that so long as shanny stays, all else is moot. the shanaplan has failed. until we move on, no point getting too invested. so I stand by that. but the longer we go down the shanaplan road, the more likely it is that you gotta throw the baby out with the bathwater... or at least that is how it feels right now.
Get a smart player agent for your GM.

On one hand I'm glad its not the wrist. it being a chronic problem of this magnitude is something that could shorten his prime amd career by 4-5 years easy.

But yeah, just confused now.

He sounds like the people who claimed Giordano would never take less than 3m a few years ago. Then he did. If Tavares wants to stay it'll be a substantial discount and it sure sounds like he doesn't want to move his family elsewhere.

Hes made his bank. Now pull a Selanne/Karyia and play for league min

sure, but it clearly impacted his shot. I dunno why he won't just say so. it's plainly fucking obvious.
I took that quote to be that he did confirm that it impacted his shot. He just clarified that it wasn't the only thing that it impacted. Lines up with back injury to me but wild that he couldn't ever get it under control all season and flew to Germany to treat it.

And even more wild that they didn't shut him down. Unless he was dealing with something that wouldn't get worse through playing, but I'm not sure anything like that exists.

Matthews says he's going to keep his injury to himself. But he got hurt in training camp. And with time off he's confident he'll be fine next year.

Maybe should have shut him down all season eh

Yeah. I don’t get all the mystery. Without knowing anything, it’s hard to second guess the approach that was taken but if a few months this summer will cure all, why not take Jan/Feb off… instead of wrecking another playoff
