2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

He is horrible defensively though. Despite that chance creation he was a 41% xGF in round 2.

If he’s a center you have to play him with some play driving responsible wingers that can score, which the Leafs didn’t have on their 3rd line. He need a Antropov/Poni.
yah, he's flawed. but so is pretty much any 3C.

so like you say, either mitigate his weaknesses with better wingers, or put him on the wing with one of our stars, where he has shown he can produce at a good level.

I mean 40% xgf in the playoffs is not ideal any way you slice it. Credit to him for converting his chances and shooting 18% and getting a very high on-ice save% from the goaltending, but his line guy caved in every time he was on the ice. Putting a line driver alongside him could fix that quite easily, however. And he was nowhere near the biggest issue of the team, I agree!
this is the Berube way though. what was his xgf% rel?

Playoffs Lines:

Knies-Matthews-Marner: 145min, 55.7xgf%, 62.4gf%

Holmberg-Tavares-Nylander: 67min, 52.8xgf%, 38.8gf%
Pacioretty-Tavares-Nylander: 55min, 45.2xgf%, 74.5gf%
McMann-Tavares-Nylander: 13min, 78.7xgf%, 51.8gf%
Domi-Tavares-Nylander: 9min, 7.6xgf%, 50.0gf%

McMann-Domi-Pacioretty: 40min, 28.5xgf%, 36.3gf%
McMann-Domi-Holmberg: 29min, 51.7xgf%, 00.0gf%
McMann-Domi-Robertson: 17min, 43.6xgf%, 49.5gf%
McMann-Domi-Nylander: 11min, 50.0xgf%, 100.0gf%
Holmberg-Domi-Pacioretty: 7min, 72.0xgf%, 100.0gf%
McMann-Holmberg-Robertson: 5min, 14.3xgf%, 50.0gf%

Lorentz-Laughton-Jarnkrok: 99min, 43.7xgf%, 23.6gf%
Lorentz-Kampf-Laughton: 8min, 4.8xgf%, 00.0gf%
can we waive Laughton instead?

Im guessing Berube doesn't like Domi, cause he doesn't fit his style.

I dont think he's waived, but i suspect he's traded.
I think the guaranteed one stupid penalty per game on average is the thing that gets coaches soured on the guy and then off to a new team. I’m sure Berube had zero time for some of those terrible and poorly-timed penalties.

Playofs Goals Against / 60

1. Jarnkrok 1.80
2. Domi 1.93
3. McMann 1.96
4. Laughton 2.04
5. Robertson 2.21
6. Matthews 2.29
7. Marner 2.42
8. Nylander 2.47
9. Holmberg 2.49
10. Pacioretty 2.75
11. Knies 2.88
12. Lorentz 3.05
13. Tavares 3.14
14. Kampf 11.38

It wasn't Domi's defense that cost us anything.

we gotta pick a lane here.

are we prioritizing 'playoff performers'? if so, you gotta keep Domi.

are we prioritizing possession? if so, what the fuck is Berube doing here. and if we're not prioritizing possession, then we shouldn't complain when Domi has bad possession numbers (like most of the team did)

this just means more PPs for us. we should like this.

My best guess is you are going to prioritize Berube's brand and get him the best guys possible to excel in that brand. Domi aint it.

I think the 26 Leaf roster is going to look alot less skilled on paper and do much worse in the regular season, but i guess in order to win in the post season you need to do worse in the regular season and perhaps risk missing the post season? Shrug. I dunno.

I mean, again, I'm annoyed that I think you're probably right. not cause of anything personal, but because fuck Berube's brand.

I was skeptical all year, gave it a chance, and then... well... we saw how it ended.

Goals For %, Playoffs:

1. Robertson 100.0%
2. Matthews 60.7%
3. Domi 58.7%
4. Pacioretty 57.8%
5. Marner 57.7%
6. Nylander 55.1%
7. Knies 52.5%
8. Tavares 57.0%
9. McMann 45.6%
10. Holmberg 33.1%
11. Lorentz 28.4%
12. Laughton 26.7%
13. Jarnkrok 19.1%
14. Kampf 00.0%

Note that Domi is not only hugely positive here, but is the only full-time bottom-6 guy who is up there.

Patches is close to him, but spent at least half his time in the top-6.

So this can be both fair and unfair IMO

Most of the stink around Berube is positive and he just got here, and if you are going to commit to his very boring shitty brand, you might as well give him the guys required to excel in it.

Or just pull the plug on him and start over with him as a one and done? I dunno.

The fuck up was allowing Shanahan to fire Dubas and allow Tre to hire Berube.

Now, if Shanahan goes the new guy enters a situation with a GM/coach that have done mostly positive things and he needs to wait at least a year to bring in his own things. Which is probably why Tre is just promoted.

Ass backwards.

Shanahan, Dubas, Keefe should have all went at once.

you're making me like Max even more. and I feel like I've been one of his biggest supporters around these parts.

also, that fourth line, dear lord...
