2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Elliotte implied that yesterday too. Many times he had no idea what was going on. Didn't know about certain trade offers they got under dubas, etc.

There were reports 2 years ago they had issues getting in touch with him. He lived in New York most of the time, no?

it's not up to the league. the players are at the mercy of the various laws in both US and Canada, and the tax treaty between the two
There's nothing stopping from each team paying their province or state taxes as usual.. Players in tax free states will have that money deducted (the average) and sent to NHL in new york and then NHLPA or teams access the amount paid in taxes from those funds.

If JT has to pay 30% in taxes of 11 mill. (3.3 million) he pays that to CRA in February and in March or at the end of the season he is sent a 3.3 million dollar cheque from NHL.

plus he would have the league wide average tax to pay into at the beginning of the season, but I could see that as like a 10% league average.

Price of equity bitches

Tldr I genuinely think it was already the Dubas show and the Tre Show. Would love to blame their failures on Shanny but I think there was minimal intervention.

So nothing has changed. Great!

The most on point comment I saw was the "change is hard" one.

It really is. It's tough for me to envision the Leafs without Marner, even though that may be the way to take the next step.

Certainly, I would've liked Bennett injuring their guys and having 9 goals in the early stages of the third round. And Marchand to top it off.

Maybe getting those guys and letting go of Marner's 100 points will be the way forward. Though I fully expect getting those guys just to have them bust with us, and Marner joining some other team and suddenly becoming a postseason warrior. That is the way of the Leaf.

One thing's for sure though - there was never a more dreary atmosphere around a winning Leaf team than I saw this year.

Pure toxic.

I don't know if it was Matthews' injury, or Marner's ongoing contract garbage, or what, but they all looked miserable all season long.

At bare minimum, I want to see them being fired up and having fun again.

it starts with the fans! be positive! say nice things on social media and Forum Ice. Be the change you want to see. Do your part!!!
Hey, I'm probably the nicest to them. I'm core 4 all the way.

I could be nicer to Kampf and Reaves though, so I take responsibility for their lackluster seasons.

the league cannot just ignore local tax laws though, which seems to be what you are proposing? and if that's not what you are proposing, then I am sorry I do not understand.

Not proposing that...everybody pays their taxes as normal. Every cities tax percentage is calculated and the average is collected from all teams and then paid back to players that pay taxes so that everyone pays the average...kinda like escrow

the money redistributed to players would then be taxable though

The "meddling Shanahan" stuff that dropped after Dubas was fired always seemed like bullshit from the onset.
