2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Why? He's paid like an elite player. He can't expect to earn his money passing from the half boards in the playoffs.

He’s also a guy that’s scored 30 goals multiple times and overall has always averaged 25-30 goals per season in the regular season.

So I’m not sure why any player with that kind of regular season track record (to go along with a top paycheque) shouldn’t be expected to score goals in the playoffs.

Actually I think I posted the graphic about his no goals and 6 assists in 18 late series games. So he’s been absent on both fronts there, but it’s hard to exclusively shit on the guy for this past playoffs when none of them did anything.
You can when he's no longer under contract. If he was still signed and it was Nylander or Matthews who were going UFA, there'd be plenty of shit to heap on them too.

If they can sign Bennett long term for noncrazy money, and fill in the roster with one year guys, that’s the way to go. Or Marchand short term if we can’t get Bennett.

I really don’t want a bunch of multi year guys who aren’t difference makers. That’ll literally be the end of us.
The Leafs probably cant get Bennett to begin with but if they can it will cost them very crazy money. Hes not giving them or any other team and discount.

LOF is just sad he's leaving is all, I think

Has there ever been a better candidate to get over the hump with another team and watch us burn in the rear view mirror?

If Hyman turned into a 50 goal guy, what might Marner do?

I’m just never going to be on board with losing an elite talent. For nothing makes it even worse.

I think this is good for you.

Im guessing you have trouble of letting go of things in your life.

Stuffed animals, an old couch, the smell of your step dad.

It's good to move on

I’ll eat crow if I’m wrong, but I’m really not worried about Marner transforming into some clutch playoff beast after he leaves Toronto.

Maybe he’ll win, but only if he goes somewhere where he’s the fifth or sixth most important player on the roster and where their other stars come up big.

Yes, the fact that we didn’t trade him when we had the chance to, like I was screaming at them to do, and instead let him sleepwalk through two more shit playoff runs before leaving for nothing is all-time horrible asset management.

But better to bite the bullet and let him leave than throw more good money after bad.

Glad to see LOF slowly accept what is happening here

Kessel, Kadri, Bozak, Steen, Murphy... the list of players we ran out of town that went on to prove the Leafs wrong is long and embarrassing. But Marner won't be added to it. He's the one quitting on the Leafs.

They tried to extend him last summer and his side didn't even want to talk. Not sure what else we could have done other than give in to literally every want hes ever had here. Money, the C, the ego stroking, etc.
