Jason would be a crazy good pickup if somehow Dallas was getting rid of him cheap.

Only 25, only $7.75m for Tavares-like production and maybe a lot more (based on that one year), really good playoff numbers, expiring but still an RFA, and could actually make the Leafs value Nick and keep him around against their own desires and see him blossom. I'd really like this one if it happened.

With the $23M of money freed up by Marner, Knies, and Tavares expiring, if we sign Knies to $7M, get Jason at $7.75M, plus Tavares at $4.4M, we've almost potentially replaced Marner's production through Jason and have another $4M to spend.

Also, we know Kampf for sure isn't returning given that Berube had zero use for him in the playoffs last year, so that money is coming off, and if they want to dump Krok, they for sure can. Another $4.5M to play with.

Of Isles are blowing it up I wouldn't mind trying to trade for Horvat. He's not great and probably overpaid but probably a good all around 2C.

Is a solid 2C at his rate even overpaid when the cap is 113 million in 2 years?

Worst comes to worst, just waive Kampf and send him to the Marlies. That saves 1.15. At least then we won't feel the fucking need to spend picks on depth centres at the deadline. We'll have a 4C sitting down the street.
