Don’t get the stylistic argument at all. He has been a 30 g 100 pt guy in every season since his third year in the league. He set his career high in points under berube.

Marner’s problem is and has always been playoff performance. And ultimately his playoff success or lack of it will come down to his willingness to go to the net and play through contact. In Toronto his game did not hold up in tight checking, physical hockey.

Random thoughts: Would’ve been nice to try something a little different than saddling him next to Matty for 7 years.

I remember him just piling up points 4 or 5 a game playing with Bozak and JVR. We needed one of our core 4 on the 3rd line - but I suspect all these babies were too proud to do that.

I hope Matthew’s balls finally drop next year, but I’m worried he’s a big part of the problem

The fact that he's been in the league this long and still has all his teeth should be a dancing indictment of his postseason play. He gets interviewed after his team is eliminated and there isnt a scratch on him.

Matthews is nearly as bad. All that failure also rests with him. But he is not irredeemable like Marner.
