2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

I like my 20 point guys to have good nerdies. That's a positive. They shouldn't be on the third line for a team that already can't score though. Nor should he make any significant amount of money.

the positive is that contract wasn’t nearly as bad as it looked at the time. He only lasted one year and somehow they were able to trade the 3rd. For an interesting young D project.

I thought we’d still be playing him every night.

If Thrun is anything then it’s was a great deal. Tre >
Big "if"...

Yeah, spending ridiculous coin on multiple 4th liners/extremely borderline 3rd liners was kinda Treliving’s thing in Calgary. And one of the big reasons I was vehemently opposed to his hiring.

The thing I don’t get is that Joshua at 2x$3.25M would be a godawful UFA signing. But as a trade, this should have been a pure salary dump at minimum, or really the Canucks should’ve had to pay to dump this entire salary.

So why are we the ones coughing up a draft pick here?
Sorry, but it's 3 x $3.25M...

Knies-Matthews-Maccelli
XXX-Tavares-Willy
Joshua-Roy-Domi
Lorentz-Laughton-McMann

Has over $9 million in cap space with 6 d and the goalies.

The key will be turning that into an impact forward, and maybe D too.

I think they see him as a younger, tougher Mcmann, that they think with the right linemates could be a Zack Hyman lite.

Him and Roy as the third line is a tough line up that could score if they are given the right role.

I like it because I think Berube can coach him and we need some size that can actually skate a bit.
Krok and Kampf have to go.

Something has to give with Domi and McMann.

McMann isn't a 4th liner and should be higher up in the lineup, but not necessarily second line. Really he should be on that third line beside Roy. It feels like Domi and him are going for the same spot. And Domi, despite his little /60 scoring stats, leaves a lot to be desired.

Also, if they work in Cowan, he would potentially be in that spot.

The true final picture, even after the big swing move, likely won't be clear until they duke it out for these remaining spots at camp.

DOMs (using Matthews/Maccelli/Joshuas previous season)

Knies (+9)-Matthews (+31)-Maccelli (+6)
XXX-Tavares (+14)-Willy (+13)
Joshua (+5)-Roy (-1)- Domi (-3)
Lorentz (-3)-Laughton (-1)-McMann (+1)

A lot less huge negatives than we’re used to if their bets rebound.
