I’m the first to admit I don’t follow prospects as closely as I should…. but reading espns article about top NHL prospects and I have to say iF there are 34 players ahead of Nadeau I’ll eat my hat. He’s been pretty dominant in the AHL at age 19. I think there rankings are shit, but again I don’t follow it as closely as some of you. Am I missing something?

It's not like those rankings have any authority, for one. They all boil down to a handful of opinions, some more trustworthy than others ... but still opinions. And as much as there is to like about Nadeau's game, there are concerns beyond just his lack of size and physicality. He's not much of a skater and offers very little in the offensive zone aside from finishing. That IS how they keep score, but if you compare him to a guy like Blake, who also lacks high end skating and any kind of size, then Nadeau's lack of other dimensions stands out a bit. He's not really any kind of presence on the forecheck, isn't very good in the neutral zone and is pretty lost in the D zone. He's game, and maybe that stuff will improve but right now his tool kit is very one dimensional. Most of the decent prospect rankings are looking for guy to have multiple ways to succeed, and right now he's only got the one. Which is OK in an organization that's deep in the other stuff and badly needs a pure finisher.

3 Games this week. Thr @Iowa, Sat v. Iowa, Sun. v Grand Rapids

Down in the ECHL for Greensboro, Ruslan Khazheyev is 1-3-1 2.99 GAA .897 Sv%. At some point we might see Quapp and Khazheyev switch spots
I'm kind of surprised they haven't made that change yet, but I suppose they could be taking it slow with Khazheyev after the rough year he had last year. By all accounts he's been holding it down pretty well in Greensboro, without a great setup in front of him.

Poirier really is continuing right where he left off in Juniors as a close to a goal a game sniper .

He isn't going to project out as Cole Caufield, he just doesn't have the speed and hockey sense (according to the experts), but it will be interesting to see if his game can work at a pro level. History is frought with little guys who filled the net in juniors and the college ranks but were invisible when they turned pro.

I do appreciate that the Canes drafted Poirier in the 5th round...this is the exact type of flyer you want your franchise to be taking in those later rounds.

Yeah, that's presuming a lot ... but here's hoping the kid doesn't have PTSD from all the shellings he endured in Chicago last season. I don't have a ton of faith in Khazheyev as a prospect, but it would be nice to have another actual G prospect in the system.

Checking in on former Canes prospects:

Cruz Lucius RW (4th round 2022) (Guentzel trade): He is a Senior now playing at Arizona State. 8 Games 7 Goals 3 Assists +4

Scott Morrow RHD (2nd round 2021) (K. Miller trade) Off to a slow start for the Hartford Wolfpack: 7 Games 0 Goals 1 Assist -3

Ville Koivunen W (2nd round 2021) (Guentzel trade) Has played in the AHL and NHL this season:

With AHL Wiles-Barre/Scranton: 6 Games 4 Goals 7 Assists +5
With NHL Pittsburgh: 7 Games 0 Goals 1 Assist -1

Aidan Hreschuk LHD (3rd round 2021) (Max Domi trade) Finished out his college career last season with Boston College. Signed to a minor league contract with the Texas Stars and is currently playing for ECHL Idaho: 9 Games 0 Goals 3 Assists Even

Robert Orr LW (5th round 2021) (Unsigned by Canes) - Playing his 2nd season at the University of Prince Edward Island: 10 Games 5 Goals 8 Assists +7

Vasily Ponomarev C (2nd round 2020) (Guentzel trade) Was extended a qualifying offer by the Pens but elected to sign with KHL Omsk instead. Pens still hold his NHL rights. With KHL Omsk: 15 Games 5 Goals 3 Assists +3

Zion Nybeck W (4th round 2020) (unsigned by Canes) - After toiling in the Swedish 2nd tier league for the past 4 seasons, Nybeck is back playing in SweHL for Linkopings (and not producing offense again): 18 Games 1 Goals 1 Assist -2

Lucas Mercuri C (6th round 2020) (traded to Tampa for 6th round pick after refusing to sign with the Canes). Mercuri is in his first full pro season with the Tampa organization, playing for AHL Syracuse: 8 Games 2 Goals 1 Assist Even

Jamieson Rees C (2nd round 2019) (trade to Ottawa for a 6th round pick). Rees was not re-signed by Ottawa for this season. Ottawa's AHL affiliate signed him to a minor league 1 year contract. It appears he might be hurt again. For AHL Belleville: 1 Game 0 Goals 0 Assists -1

Patrick Puistola W (3rd round 2019) (unsigned by Canes) - Now 24 years old, Puistola has played the past 2 seasons with SweHL Orebro: 18 Games 7 Goals 5 Assists +2

Anttoni Honka RHD (3rd round 2019) (unsigned by Canes). No longer under contract with the Canes, Honka is playing his 2nd season for Swiss-A Ajoie: 21 Games 2 Goals 13 Assists -8.

Cade Webber LHD (4th Round 2019) (traded to Toronto for a 6th round pick). Playing his 2nd pro season for AHL Toronto: 8 Games 0 Goals 0 Assists Even

Tuukka Tieksola RW (4th Round 2019) (unsigned by Canes after entry level contract). Now 24, Tieksola is off to the best offensive start of his career with Liiga Karpat: 15 Games 3 Goals 7 Assists -1

Kirill Slepets LW (5th Round 2019) (part of 3 way trade that had the Leafs acquire Ilya Lyubushkin) 26 years old, still a middling forward for KHL Khabarovsk: 22 Games 3 Goals 3 Assists -5

Kevin Wall RW (6th round 2019) (unsigned by Canes). Wall was not signed by any NHL team after playing out his career with at Penn State. He signed an AHL contract with Milwaukee and had 2 unrememberable seasons there (just 8 goals in 97 games). He signed with ECHL Tahoe for this season and may have found a level of pro hockey he can excel at: 9 Games 6 Goals 6 Assists +8

Blake Murray C (6th round 2019) (unsigned by Canes after entry level deal). Murray is still kicking around in the ECHL, playing for Fort Wayne: 7 Games 1 Goal 3 Assists +3

Massimo Rizzo C (7th round 2019) (gifted to Flyers because we felt bad about how the Tony D'Angelo thing went down). Rizzo is on the 2nd year of his entry level deal with the Flyers organization. He had 18 points for AHL Lehigh Valley last season, but finds himself assigned to ECHL Reading this season: 7 Games 2 Goals 7 Assist +3

Rangers fans are loudly speculating about what they could get if they traded Morrow before everybody else realizes how terrible he is in the D zone.
I will trust the Canes scouts and management on that move...his defensive game has a long way to go to be trusting enough to have any seasoned coach (Mike Sullivan) deploy him nightly in the NHL.
