2025-26 Hurricanes Prospects and Minors Thread

Ryabkin moved up and down the lines, but he did get consistent action in the playoffs with the Wolves and certainly didn’t look out of place. Not sure what to make of Cerrato’s stint in Chicago, honestly. Carolina really needs one or both of those two to hit, though.

Setting up the prospect list for next season.

Removed from the list (6/22/2026):

Charlie Cerrato C (2nd Round 2025) - Should be in AHL next season.

6/27 - Updated Artamonov's team. Added new 2026 draft picks.

7/13 - Updated Guslistov's team (he signed with KHL Sochi). Updated Artamonov's team (again) as he was loaned to Severstal after being traded to Yekaterinburg a few weeks ago. Updated Avramov's team. Updated Velmakin's team.

The Canes Prospects twitter account tweeted that both Roman Shokhrin and Timur Kol are in the US, South Florida to be exact. Take that as you will.

Bang up job as always. I hope this year’s draft brings you a raft of CHL and NCAA players to make this a little easier.

The Canes Prospects twitter account tweeted that both Roman Shokhrin and Timur Kol are in the US, South Florida to be exact. Take that as you will.
It’s in Carolina’s best interests to get as many of these guys as possible into North American programs. The quality level of the KHL has taken a serious hit in recent years and that doesn’t show signs of getting better. That’s got a trickle down effect on the development programs that feel the KHL too. Also, I kind of hope that the Hurricanes’ Russian Fire Sale approach to the draft can be finished. There’s distressed assets and then there’s damaged goods. It’s getting hard to know the difference.

Thank you!

We only have those 4 draft picks at the moment going into the draft:

1st round #31 overall (our pick),
4th round #105 overall (SJ's pick)
6th round #165 overall (Toronto's pick)
6th round #192 overall (our pick)

Unless we trade our 1st round pick as part of a big package to acquire a high end talent, you can pretty much bank on us moving down from that spot at the draft. So that might shake loose a couple of draft picks, maybe adding to our 4 in this draft, but maybe only becoming a 2nd round pick in this draft and adding picks in future drafts.

I'm hoping we have a shift in approach and maybe forgo Russians for this draft? I mean, look at that list...there are 24 players on the list and 17 are Russian. It's true the fact that they remain our draft property in perpetuity keeps them on this list longer, but still, we keep drafting Russians at a crazy high rate.

I am nearing the point where I will start to 'Gregory Hofmann' Russians off the list as they get into their mid 20s. Nik Guslistov for example is now 24 years old and still kicking around the Russian 2nd tier league. This coming season will likely be the last season I bother to track him.

I’m 100% in favor of that, FWIW. If you wanted to just drop the Russian guys that aren’t in the KHL by the time they’re 23-24 or stop tracking Russian prospects taken after the 4th round at all … fine by me. The hit rate on those guys is only visible with serious magnification anyway.

Another Wolf off to Europe, UFA dman Juuso Valimaki has signed with Brynas in Sweden.

Yeah, Valimaki was just insurance back when the Canes defense corps was threatening to look like a MASH unit the entire season. No surprise to see him heading back to Europe at this point. He would have made a decent 7D option for Carolina but both Nystrom and Legault proved their cases and both are cheaper.

Another Wolf off to Europe, pending UFA Noah Philp signed with HV71.

The centers for the Wolves’ last playoff game were Suzuki, Philp, SBA and Nikita Pavlychev. Suzuki is a UFA, Philp is gone, Pavlychev was on a AHL contract and is also a UFA. The centers left on the roster are SBA and Charlie Cerrato.

Edited to add: I forgot about Juha Jaaska. He missed all of last season with an injury but is signed for 2026-27.

I’m thinking Artamonov has two years left on that deal? I just hope he gets a consistent role with his new club after spending a season bouncing all over the place.

Three junkyard forechecking dogs, a LONG defenseman and two relatively promising goalies. I like this mix, if nothing else. And they moved off of the small but skilled thing a bit.

Note that with Noel Gunler qualified but signed with Djugardens IF, that makes him a defected player. The Canes will retain his NHL rights. Similar to some of our other 'defected players' over the years, I'm not going to track Gunler and his exploits in Sweden's top league as part of the prospect list. We will check in on him every once in a while.
