2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Makes sense in one respect. Hayton will now be trying to prove that he’s worth that contract and more before he goes UFA next summer. You want to be the team that reaps that, especially if you’re the ones who put in the cost of developing him.

I saw that video. It appeared that he just lost an edge at fell into the boards. It sucks for the kid and the Hawks, but stuff happens.

They made Philly sweat it out.
Sure. Why not? Philly has to keep the assets available and is restricted from filing another offer sheet until this one is dealt with. If they’re gonna make you drive a Brinks truck up to this guy’s door with a signing bonus the size of an island nation’s GDP, then the least you can do is make then wait a few days.

Oh, and now a guy that is basically on Sebastian Aho’s career path is now the highest paid player in the NHL. I hope everybody is entertained

Yeah, everybody wants more offer sheets until somebody does this BS and now nobody’s all that keen on offer sheets anymore. Mess with bull, get horns.

That said, the lesson here is to quit posturing and acting the tough man and get your freaking RFAs extended during the season while negotiations can be reasonable.

I can't believe that dude is getting paid that much. Sometimes GM's are dumb...sometimes other GM's making you do even dumber things
Anaheim is not the kinda knife wielding hockey media market to ever make things difficult for a grossly overpaid player that might not be performing up to that contract but could you imagine if that same player had to live up to that contract in a media circus town that shall remain nameless…

Ask Pettersson how things are going in Vancouver. There’s more than one of those towns

BTW, you hope that Briere had conversations with his RFAs before he made that stupid offer for Leo. Otherwise Zegras and Drysdale are looking for BIG bags now that you’ve got so much freed up cash.

A couple of arbitration cases settled before the hearing.

Rangers re-sign dman Braden Schneider, 1 year/$5.5 million

Slugs re-sign forward Peyton Krebs, 4 years/$4.5 million AAV

The NHL will release approximately $170 million in escrow to players based on final 2025-26 revenue amounts. That’s about 5.5%. The exact amount won’t be known for a few months and the NHLPA has the right to audit the final numbers.

Slugs re-sign forward Peyton Krebs, 4 years/$4.5 million AAV
Given what else is going on in the market for defensemen, that bridge deal makes Schneider VERY move-able if they want to include him in a deal. He’d have one more RFA season with arbitration rights so he’s got two years of team control left.

And Buffalo came out pretty well on that Krebs deal, I think. Reliable middle 6 guy who can play all 3 forward slots, can play in all situations and plays the way they want to play. That’s probably about what Martinook would get from Carolina if he was on a current negotiating window, which sounds about right as a comp.

Kevyn Adams got a new gig, Senior Advisor to the GM in Boston.

Good. I’d love to see him get another GM gig free from Buffalo’s issues one day.
