2025 NHL Trade Deadline

The true missed opportunity was the centennial season. When the season blew up in our face, that was the perfect time to unload all our vets with expiring contracts for picks and prospects. With Price, McDonagh, Max and Subban in the system, this would have been a great time to reload with prospects, instead of trying to build a whole team from UFA signings and terrible trades (Gainey was an idiot). Then maybe we would have been in better shape in the 2010s with that core in their prime.

Hence the reason for the adjective "proper" in front of the noun "rebuild".

You don't rebuild by signing a bunch of second tier UFA's. You do it by tearing down what you have, clearing out the garbage, and building back through drafting and developing from scratch. That, of course, is too boring and time consuming for most GM's and fans but that's the only way to fix the kind of mess that Bergevin made.

If your rebuild doesn't involve years of suffering, you're not doing it properly.

the next season we made the semi-finals for the first time in 17 years, then four years later, we also made the semi-finals. I would take that over the last few seasons, other than the 3 glorious months in 2021.

Without suffering and punishment nothing can happen except more of the same. Suffering is compulsory and the imcompetent/washed up need to be punished.

NFL is built to turn around much quicker , best of the big 4 sports to run a franchise

Only moronic owners and regimes keeps you losing for a long time

NHL teams need to retool on the fly every year and try to avoid a complete gut job

I’m grateful for the moronic regimes in the NFL because they help speed up the rebuilds for the others
