Cozens prior to this year averaged 59 points for 2 seasons and was durable playing for a clusterfuk team

Buf has a recent track record of highly drafted young players they trade away who go on to become star caliber in parts unknown: Eichel, Reinhart, Mittlestadt…

Ironically Sabres seem to know how to draft Cs

IMO Habs need a Koivu type between Slaf & Demigod … which I think Cozens will become

yeah what the hell was 1998-2001, we were terrible, rebuilt with Savard and won two playoff series, then were meh until 2008, and 2010, then rebuilt for 2013-2015, then rebuilt for 2017-2021

Gainey didn't rebuild. He traded a young McDonaugh for Gomez and added Gionta. Trading youth for veterans is not rebuilding, it's trying to make the playoffs in the short term.
