If I were one of these guys, I would never have gotten on social media in the first place, or I guess given their age, I would've deleted social media as soon as I made it to a certain level, probably age 16 or 17. It's crazy to have all of those voices in your head. A pro athlete should not be hearing any of this chatter ever, until his career is over and then he can look back. The single biggest thing a parent of an aspiring pro athlete can do is to drill into them that social media could be their undoing, or at least severely limit their ability to hit their ceiling.
 
Marner's dad had notorious burners bashing Matthews and praising Marner.

You know, usually the dudes with daddy issues and shitty upbringings are angry and giant assholes, which is great and exactly what they need. Leafs happened to draft the one nice guy.

Dms were leaked admitting it was him if I recall. I just tried to find it but he deleted the account. This was way back. Like I'm taking 6-7 years ago. I'm sure he hasn't stopped but he may be more discreet now. Dudes a lunatic.

Yeah, this is an excellent point.

Not for the first time, these guys took what could otherwise have been viewed as a respectable playoff performance by people both inside and outside the Toronto fanbase, and instead turned it into something utterly humiliating.

If Marner and Matthews had scored in a hard-fought, relatively even game seven that the Leafs lost 3-2, the vibe would be completely different.

At the end of the day, we invest time and money into this team for entertainment.

Deep down, the biggest issue everyone has is that we are getting shortchanged in that department with early exits and embarrassing defeats each year. Everyone knows winning it all is exceptionally difficult and no guarantee.

It’s a little bit like getting hyped by a movie trailer because it features your favourite stars but when you go see the movie, they’re barely in it.
