If Marner and Matthews had scored in a hard-fought, relatively even game seven that the Leafs lost 3-2, the vibe would be completely different.

Bingo , no shame in losing in a hard fought series playing your nuts off and having your players play to expectations

You may lose to a better team or a bad bounce , but this disgrace every year looking like shit over stretches is unacceptable

Team simply is not built for a 4 series war and major changes have to be made
 
They were one goal away in game 3 from taking this series in six or fewer. They are definitely built for it.

But what is it that happens to this team in game 7 specifically that they can never win? The core 4 always crumbles and the ever changing cast around them never steps up either.

Different players, different coaches, different systems, more experience, and yet same result every time. This time worse than ever. How?

Uhh, no. No, they aren't built for it, "definitely" or otherwise. If they were, one of two things would have happened:

1. they would have scored the goal they needed in Game 3, or,
2. they wouldn't have fallen apart the way they did after not scoring the goal they needed in Game 3; the way they always fall apart when things don't go exactly according to plan.

Yeah. The odds that both the core 4 whiffs AND they also never get a cheap goal that bounces off a 4th liners ass are pretty remarkable
