I agree. Short term data is so noisy that all the machinations end up doing is hurting the team over a longer period. I think it's this nuance that analytics have struggled with at times. Playoff success means being effective when your exhausted and beat up and emotional which means playing with muscle memory as much as anything.
 
The speed to create separation is more important in the playoffs than in the regular season, and it's already as important AF in the regular season.

Someone posted the stat earlier this season about how a huge percentage of playoff goals are off rush chances and we had more or less stopped scoring off the rush in the playoffs over the previous few seasons.

Wonder if the Panthers are gonna take a good run at Willie in game 3 given his performance/stats? Is it out of the realm of possibility of a deliberate hit with intent to injure?
 
just an side about the poor nerdies this year. IMO weak nerdies are a real worry when it's about a lack of talent. But we've seen this team put up elite nerdies many years so we know the weak nerdies this year aren't a talent issue. That's why for me it hasn't been quite the worry it could have been argued to be.

and while our playoffs hockey hasn't been a whole lot different, it's hard to ignore the rush offense we've been getting - which makes me think that maybe brooby felt that using the regular season to instill his defensive principals as much as possible was the most important thing, and that he could always let them open up in the playoffs and the skill would still be there.

Pretty happy with patches so far. Usually it’s the other team that gets unexpected contributions in their lineup. We have patches, domi and Dmen all pitching in goals. You love to see it. And Nylander and Knies have been unbelievably good.

The way this team handles adversity has been on a different level. It’s comforting to see them not panic and respond time and time again. Go leafs GO!
