Hard to believe he got that bad that quick. It may have to do more with he's just not a good fit for the Leafs style of play. He's probably a better fit with a team that plays a simple dump and chase game where he can fight for pucks along the boards.

simply put , you pay a third liner 5.25 x 7 you are going to get burned . These morons will never learn in free agency and seriously what the f did Nonnis think he was going to do on this team .

He had a few good years. 30+ goals, hard checking play. I think people expected that he'd be putting up the 25-30 goals for the first few seasons, making the 5.25 seem reasonable for the first couple years, then it would only be bad at the back-end of the deal. But he's been absolutely pathetic so far - the biggest question now is how many years he stays around before getting bought out.

He scored 30 goals once and that was pretty much it, never scored more than 30 before or after al though the lockout year he had 15.
Not to say the guy didn't have a certain value when he was UFA but not 5.25/year that's nuts

He has averaged about 32 points a season with one good scoring year 3 years ago, where he played alot on the PP . Look at Cogliano who is a productive mainly third liner in Anahiem , different player with speed , skill and is feisty and contributes 20 goals , he signed 3 mil x 4 years which is fair for his role . Clarkson should of got 4 x 4 max at 30 years of age.
This deal had bust written all over it from day 1 , same as Clowe and Leino . And you would figure after dozens and dozens of bad deals in UFA , one would learn.
He will not be bought out and be on the cap for 10 years for the Leafs , if a deal is to be made the Leafs will pick up 50% and move on , or find a team to give back a bad deal and pick up salary.
