Around the League: 2019-2020 Regular Season

When you look at Toronto’s situation it’s tricky

Will they be a better team than last year?

Their defence which already needed help just lost a big piece in Gardiner, although I’m no fan of his he played some big minutes and gave them good minutes.

And what if Marner gets 11.5?

Still need to get four dmen under contract before the season starts.

And they once again have no first rounder next year.

At best its the status quo for the Leafs which is fine because they’re a good team but I may need some convincing in that they are still trending upwards

I think the most likely scenario for Toronto is Nylander getting moved.

If they're not moving any of Marner/Nylander/Kapanen, then they're going to have to play some mighty gymnastics to get an NHL caliber defense on the right side.

Seems like the our friends on the leafs board want their rookies getting a shot

I'm sure they do. I don't know if Sandin can play the right side, if he can then he's set to start the year. Liljegren is not my cup of tea and don't think much of him. After that, who else is there?

Elliotte Friedman Hearing OTT/TOR are working on a Zaitsev deal. Might not happen for a couple of days, but it’s in the process.

Welp, that's one right d-man. He's Ottawa's whipping boy.

I think they add a little compensation to have some team take Zaitsev off their hands.

Ive watched a few games between Laval and the Rocket this year and Liljegren is just too mistake prone, seems to lack awareness of what is going on around him on the ice

Dregger reporting that Kessel has been dealt to Arizona and that Galchenyuk and possibly a first rounder going the other way

There's a little bit of that. I just don't think he's anything more than a third pairing d-man. He doesn't have any outstanding traits to his game.

Granted, he's just 20 and he has time to grow, but I'm just not a fan. If I'm wrong, I know the Leafsfans on these boards will be very quick to rub it in my face.

Darren Dreger PO Joseph and Galchenyuk to Pittsburgh for Kessel and a 4th round pick.

Galchenyuk lasted one year in Arizona, gotta think they saw alot of the same things Habs brass saw in him to deal him this soon

That's a pretty good haul for Kessel and good managing by Pittsburgh. Aging player about to turn 32, never been a workout freak...

I guess Chayka really didn’t see Galchenyuk as a part of the long term because he’s still only 25

That "Aging Player" has had his best statistical seasons since turning 30 and hasn't missed a game in 10 years. He's aging better than almost anyone in the NHL. Maybe the idea he's so out of shape is a myth?
