How many times has Rutherford fired/retired only to be unearthed by someone desperate and clueless?
On the other hand, it's only the Olympics, which is a meaningless exhibition tournament. Canada winning gold or not doesn't change the fact that they are the #1 hockey nation on the planet so results are irrelevant.Everytime they've gone the route of Zamuner, Draper they've lost. It's a dumb idea. Load up with talent. Hyman doesn't belong.
Wilson is real good but he'll end up in some hard labour camp if he goes to China.
shhhhhh there is no place for facts in this discussionThe Hyman thing is pretty weird since Bunting stepped into his spot and is nearly matching Hyman's point production except with half the PP time/game and not on PP1?
I agree. it's bad news if a lot of players go and some can get injured. it also kills the momentum. I was so excited back in 98' when they went first time. Now I don't care.On the other hand, it's only the Olympics, which is a meaningless exhibition tournament. What is relevant is how individual players participation in the Olympics impact their NHL team's preparation for the stretch drive and playoffs. This is why fans of any team with Cup aspirations should be happy when Team Canada passes over one of their players and selects a Zamuner or a Draper instead. The Cup is what matters, not Olympic medals.
It's worse for Leafs fans because your best player won't even be playing for Team Canada. Do you want to see Matthews blow out his knee in a meaningless Olympic match against Belarus while Team USA goes for silver or bronze?I agree. it's bad news if a lot of players go and some can get injured. it also kills the momentum. It's not good for the Leafs they are going.

League rarely ventures out of the box, do they?

Rob Zaumner >>>>and at a fraction of the cap hit
16pts vs 7pts 5v5. Hyman should be nowhere near the discussion
It's amazing. Imagine being a guy like Bergy who took a torch to the Habs and left it in such a state that it'll take another 5+ years for them to crawl out of the ashes, and already being rumored for another job. At least Rutherford did something - 3 cups. But yeah, the only time these guys get put out to pasture is when they're actually buried under pasture. No other league is like this. Just the same failures re-hired over and over and over again. its bizarre.
i am with zeke - lets send 4 teams! You'd figure they'd troll leaf fans by moving on to Kadri now, at least.
Team Canada by PPG - looking Hyman's production this year only:
Team AI mean, Wilson kind of has a legit argument at least. Both production and being a legit physical presence.

why did the north stars leave?
Remember when the Hasek and the Czech Republic won the gold? Did them winning that medal change anything? Did anyone actually believe that because they won gold that the Czechs were now the best hockey nation on the globe? Get real. Six game round robin play followed by single game eliminations don't prove jack shit. You put any other country in a 7 game series against Canada and the outcome is a foregone conclusion every time. That's actually exactly what it means. How else do we determine who the best hockey playing nation in the world is without head to head competition? That's kind of the point. Self proclaiming yourself world champion without competition is kind of douchey.
Back in the 70's the Cleveland Barons "merged" with the North Stars (i.e. the Barons ceased to exist and the North Stars got all their players like Gilles Meloche and Gary McAdam) Then years later the Gund brothers owned them and worked out some deal whereby they got to ditch the North Stars and get an expansion team in San Jose.Old owners had been threatening to leave for years, but continued putting a shit team on the ice.
Because the new owner already had his heart set on moving to Anaheim and when Disney deep dicked that idea, the NHL offered up Dallas as an alternative. Basically the owner bought North Stars (who had sucked forever) promising that the club was going to stay in Minnesota long term, but the year after he bought it, the North Stars went on a cinderella run to the finals (to get smacked down by Mario), and when that didn't increase ticket sales the following season (in which they were again bad. 4th in the Chuck Norris division, 70 points in 80 games), they pulled the pin and started the process of moving to Dallas.
Basically, the owner was a cheap, greasy fuck. He kept the team out in Bloomington to continue playing at an old barn with a 15,000 seat capacity in the suburbs because Pepsi was a club sponsor and Coke had pouring rights at the brand new Target centre (17,500 for hockey, located downtown Minny). Not too dissimilar from the shit show decision making with the Yotes tbh. Choosing to play in the suburbs instead of downtown.
Actually kinda ballsy of Shanny to hire Dubas in a league like this. Bet it majorly pissed off the old boy's club.No other league is like this. Just the same failures re-hired over and over and over again. its bizarre.
Rutherford seems to like doing business with the Leafs, and the Leafs always seem to do well by Rutherford, so lfg!

not only did he hire Dubie, but he chose him over the ultimate old boy in Hunter, and the godfather of the old boys club in Lou.Actually kinda ballsy of Shanny to hire Dubas in a league like this. Bet it majorly pissed off the old boy's club.
