LOL Spector claiming Draisaitl is better "Overall" than Matthews because he plays the PK. Ridiculous. And he could have used Huberdeau as the one-dimensional argument and it would have been fine. But he had to use Matthews of course.

The Leafs can afford to have Matthews out there more 5v5 and on the PP by not having him play in the PK. That doesn't mean Matthews wouldn't be a good at the PK too.

Matthews not being on the PK is 100% just about the Leafs not putting him in the role, not because he wouldn't be great at it. I agree that is a stupid take.

Drai ranks 6th of the Oilers' forwards in SHTOI, and of the 8 forwards with at least 20 sh minutes he ranks (by far) the worst in expected goals against. So he makes a bad PK even worse.

I've never understood the idea a player being on a PK means they are good on the PK. Oilers are ranked 18th overall. Draisaitl is #1 in avg TOI among NHL forwards. They risk burning him out.
PK depends on depth and how you use your stars. Taking 5 on 5 from Matthews when they are #7 in PK and #1 in special teams overall seems dumb to me.
It's like when people knocked Karlsson for not playing much PK, meanwhile the entire teams stats offensively and defensively tanked the second he left the ice.

Drai is also one of their worst 5v5 defensive forwards. Any attempt to try to portray as anything but what he is...a PP merchant, just doesn't play nicely with the facts.
