Calgary somehow got better in all this. The lost a winger but gained a #1 dman and #2 center.

it likely won’t age well, but good for them.
 
I said just the other day that there was little chance Lou was just trying to move players all this time, and that Kadri is probably just waiting for someone to meet his number. Looks like they exhausted all possible avenues and could only get the Flames to shell out. Given how long it took, I don't expect Calgary paid through the nose either. My guess is 5-6 years at $6.75m.
 
Yea, Flames management deserves full marks for their work this summer.

With that said, they put themselves in this shit position by bridging tkachuk, and low balling Johnny for 12 months but as far as "oh shit oh shit oh shit" moves go, these were solid

I don't see how that's worst than what Bergevin did (didn't do). At least you know there's talent there to start. Working out the rest is the problem.

Can't do that with talentless acquisitions.

Nah, Zbad was young (22) and coming off of two good seasons already as a 2C. There was some obvious projection for upside there. Monahan is almost 28 and has been pretty junk for 2 years.

Very different imo.

Rehabbing Monahan back into legit 2C territory would give a lovely trade chip though, especially if there is retention from Calgary involved
 
I don't see how it could be Montreal without a contract swap so I think Gallo is smoking smoked meat.
