Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I don't understand that argument tbh.
I take it as, why add UFAs and get nothing for it other than performance by the player if you're not going to be competitive, when you can add players via trade who are contract dumps and get picks and prospects for it instead. It's true, but not sure why it would be suddenly happening this year and not previously.

..but the list consists of guys that are way past their due-dates (Thornton, Subban) and/or guys that have a history of injuries, or tweener guys that have been living on NHL scraps and PTOs.

Milano is the only real mystery to me.

That agent is just being whiny and trying to paper over his own fuck-ups. There's no conspiracy or explosion of teams that are tanking.

What's happening has been pretty standard throughout the cap era. If you're a tweener or an old guy that doesn't appear to have much left in the tank, your best approach is to jump on whatever your best offer is as soon as free agency opens.

If you sit back and wait, history shows that you're almost always going to end up having to:

A) Settle for a one-year, bargain-basement deal late in the summer
B) Attend someone's camp on a PTO after not getting any offers
C) Settle either for retirement or a contract in Europe

Yeah I mean guys like Milano Rodrigues Rask are normally mid-30pt type guys who have bounced around the league...i'm not sure what they were hoping for exactly.

They probably priced themselves way too high.

Really it was the top guys that didn’t get the contracts ppl expected (Gaudreau, Kadri, Klingberg).

shitty teams still paid a lot of money to shitty players.( see Ottawa and Detroit).

Gaudreau had a better offer.

I think Kadri got paid for what he is at his age.

Klingberg just isn't that good I don't know what he was thinking.

Terrible argument...there's always free agents lingering at camp that agents didn't deal with properly. Before the cap, it was "rosters are set, no spaces". Now, it's blame the cap. Good agents prep their guys to get a reasonable dollar and go...don't wait for perfect when good is right there.

I wonder how much of the negativity jn the market is embedded by this style of commentating? If the announcers do their job well they impact how you feel and interpret the game.

I want to laugh but thats basically a cheaper version of the JT deal for a guy who has been better the last 3 years than JT was the 3 years prior to us signing him.
