Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Thats still a shitty take even today

The trade was good it was Burkes other miscalculations that caused the team to spiral

Yeah, we sure missed out on franchise cornerstone Tyler fucking Seguin, didn't we.

The same people who shit talk the trade uniformly ran Phil out of town saying that he couldn't be part of a winning team. Fucking woops.
Seguin, Hamilton, and whoever we'd have picked with the 2nd. Or whoever else we'd have picked with the 1sts. Or traded them for. Who knows how it would've unfolded. But you don't trade the farm for a winger when your team is pretty much a bubble team with nothing else in the pipeline.

And the trade has nothing to do with Phil's trade out of town. Nobody got rid of him. They blew up the whole team.

Burke might have drafted Gudbranson instead of Seguin. He loved big, dumb defenseman and was always the smartest guy in the room.

I didn't. Still don't care. Neither turned into the franchise players that our media tried to convince us we had given up for Phil.
That's nice rationalizing. But the trade still doomed us and made that whole Kessel era - also known as the Burke era - a complete waste of time that required a complete teardown to fix.

On the Kessel trade, what you can fairly rip Burke for is:

A) Not lotto protecting the fucking pics. Though an interesting thought on that point is that if you give the Bruins a later first round pick instead of the Seguin pick, do you end up giving them the 2012 1st that turned into Morgan Rielly?

B) Not fixing the goddamn goaltending after making a huge “win-now” trade.

C) Making that trade when the team as constructed wasn’t anywhere close to contention. And for a guy that was for sure a star winger, but nonetheless was ill suited to being the focal point and far and away the best player on a team trying to contend.
