Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Montreal fans gave Saku a massive standing ovation when he returned to the Bell Centre as a Duck. There was a special pre-game ceremony plus he was awarded a 3rd star just to give the fans one more chance to cheer
There has to be pregame ceremonies, it's how we win games.

eh, losing to two tank teams in the first 4gms is a bad start.

but there's worse things. Like if I were the Oilers or Wild rocking a low-40s xgf% i'd be a little more worried.

See I think the Leafs lost on purpose thinking "fuck you guys and getting Bedard" and are just throwing points around to fuck up the lottery.

Bastards

Jokes aside, I’ve said it in many different contexts. This team needs a core 5 to get to where it needs to go. Everything else is great or just secondary to that need.

Even if this season turns into a write off, they're still set up pretty well going forward.

F - Barkov, Tkachuk, Reinhart, Lundell, Verhaege, Bennett, Duclair
D - Ekblad, Forsling
G - Knight

Is probably a really solid core to build around. All are either pre prime, or early-mid prime.

We can definitely talk about their swings and misses, or what trading Hubie + Weegar does this year. But if Knight turns into a 1A, and they can use their ~8 million in cap space next summer to sort out their blueline, they remain really good for the forseeable future.

That's fair. I'm not saying what they will do. But what they could/should do.

I don't think they need to "win now" with the age of their core, and taking a short term step backward to get a 24 yr old core piece like Tkachuk is better than letting it ride on Hubie + Weegar with what the pending contract status of those 2 was.

If I'm running Florida, I much prefer this scenario to Hubie at 10.5 until he's 37 & Weegar at 6.25 until he's 36.

Oilers are getting Bedard and there is nothing you can do about it.
