Those are both Chel created players with a 72 score on his wings, I swear.

seem to remember him making a number of dumb moves that ensuing summer.
Agreed. Hoffman? Really?

Now that we have clarification through time, MB mortgaged everything he could to try to get Carey and Shea a cup as he knew they were done. Like really done this time. It's also why he didn't sign his extension from Molson thankfully.

It's the world we live in. You worse than me because high school football is covered before hockey down here.

It is, but it's why it's important to us to ignore narratives and look at shit the way it really functions. Most tropes are wrong, most media narrative lazy and inaccurate.

Granted however there are two mutually exclusive things here.

While an elite team in the regular season has a better shot at a cup. A cup winner does not need to be an elite team.

Same as an elite regular season team does not necessarily make an elite playoff team.

Why? There are actually two different style of games at play so using the metrics for the regular season to predict playoffs is akin to using American football to project Canadian football playoffs. The game is called differently. If someone is unable to understand this variable then they're bound to miscalculate playoff performance.
Unless its Leafs-Tampa, in which case they call allllll the regular season penalties

Now step away from that one cup run, which I traveled the country with friends and family and my youngest and had a blast, and you'll still see more.

Love it when people tell me that wasn't fun.
I’m glad you enjoyed it. But expecting future success based on it is different and the point of contention. I think you know that though...

Same can apply for an over-reliance on regular season stats though. The truth is there would really be no argument if the NHL didn't materially change the flow of the game in the playoffs but they do.

Look, it's obvious talent wins. Even with the Habs "luck" we had talent in Weber and Price who were playing for their last chance at a cup. They elevated their pain thresholds and plowed through (coupled with legalized cross -checking). The thing is there is always more than one "elite" team in the league and a "very good" team can take out an elite team in any given series based on a multitude of variables like injuries, officiating etc.

So while I get what you're saying it's also a bit of water is wet.

Regarding the Leafs, I actually like your roster this year much better than previous years minus your goalies. The addition of Sandlin and Liljegren on a regular basis looks better than the aging Muzzin and plug they kept trying. Also Timmins looks like found money, time will tell but that's a pretty good #7.

Why would I do that?

It would be like you guys expecting playoff success based on your previous success when your team isn't even the same.
