Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Darnell Nurse and Nugent-Hopkins are good players who could absolutely play for the Leafs.

Which Leafs Dman do you think Nurse is better than? On the left side in particular.

As for RNH....Last 3 years even strength scoring:

Kerf: 11gl/38pt pace
Krok: 14gl/32pt pace
RNH: 14gl/31pt pace
Engvall: 14gl/28pt pace

And RNH doesn't play any defense, and his two most common linemates are McDavid and Drai.

How good do you think a guy whose only value over our cheap depth players is his "ability" to leech points on the McDrai PP is, exactly?

That being said, all his PP points, and your opinion here which is shared by much of the hockey world, is exactly why I think he can be traded for good value.

where do you guys fall in the "hart trophy winners should be on playoff teams" fight? i'd still likely give it to mcdavid because the next guy isn't particularly close but some feel strongly the other way.

Do not like the playoff requirement.

reading this board it does seem like there's only roughly 18-23 players who deserve to play in the NHL, and even around 20% of them kind of suck. Luckily the rest of them all play for 1 team, which happens to wear blue and white that we cheer for. Yay, lucky us!!

Darnell Nurse and Nugent-Hopkins are good players who could absolutely play for the Leafs. (yes, Nurse is definitely overpaid. Doesn't mean he's useless) And Dom has Drai worth $13.5 million dollars, which is $5m surplus since he's paid 8.5. Can we at least stop pretending that he isn't good at hockey, or that power plays are not a part of the game?

i don't understand this. do you read the board? every single player in the league who is not a Leaf, sucks. including league mvp candidates. it's the media's fault for not acknowledging this.

The 2022-23 Edmonton Oilers are picked to win the Stanley Cup by numerous NHL commentators, from ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski to Sportsnet’s Eliotte Friedman.

Yes the media's evaluation of Edmonton is the media's fault. And if you don't find it funny that they get this so wrong than I believe you need to recalibrate your sense of humor. It's beyond hilarious how off they are year after year.

yes, i read the board and see a lot of valid criticism of a team on pace for 90 points. if you mostly have an issue with zeke's stance, take it up with him instead of this shit.

Not a huge fan of using one number to compare players, but GSVA is a high-quality stat. And I will say that I do agree with much of your assessment, just not with the idea that Nurse & RNH are the main problem here. Team defense is an issue and obviously goaltending is too. And many of the other guys are sucking or underperforming.

GSVA (2022-23):

Nugent-Hopkins: 2.3

Kerfoot: 1.2
Engvall: 0.8
Jarnkrok: 0.1

As for the D, before looking at the numbers I thought about each guy and wondered if it's fair to say that Nurse and Brodie may be similar quality players, with Nurse better offensively and Brodie better defensively. Kind of funny to then see them equal in GSVA.

I'm not convinced that Sandin is this good, but kudos to him for playing really well lately and I can't argue against him based on these numbers.

Also weird to see Barrie is playing better (although the PP is a huge part here), but his 2.4 is a lot better than the last 3 years (1.8, 0.8, 1.1)

Sandin: 2.6
Giordano: 2.4
Barrie: 2.4
Lilly: 2.3
Rielly: 2.2
Nurse 1.3
Brodie: 1.3
Holl: 1.0
