This trade is weird...

The 10th place team in the conference trades for an expiring 2nd line centre? Vancouver takes on a protected 1st and a 3rd liner making 4.15 for this season and next (before expiring as a UFA).

What is the point for either of them? Surely Vancouver could have gotten a slightly lesser 1st rounder but with other assets that will actually be useful in a rebuild?

Yeah, it’s a trade that doesn’t make sense from either side.

It doesn’t make sense for a shit team like the Isles to be trading for a big-name rental when they’re on the outside of the playoff picture.

And it really doesn’t make sense for the Canucks to jump out on deadline selling season early if this is the kind of return they get out of it.

1st round pick + roster player + OK prospect.
