Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

yeah, he doesn't need to win the Conn Smythe for the Leafs, just be a good top 3 centre and provide leadership and some degree of offence. he's doing that.

they willingly took on Petry's $6.2 until age 37 contract, and gave up arguably a better dman to do it. And then they for some reason gave up good value to add Granlund's $5m x 3yrs contract at the deadline.

The era of the untied neck tie fashion statement is over in Pittsburgh.

Look for it to get popular in Calgary or Columbus soon.

Going to be really interesting to see what Pittsburgh does next.

Crosby & Malkin are both still top-end talent, are both still top line players and are signed for three and four more years respectively. So do they keep trying to “win-now” while they still have those guys?

The counterpoint is both had healthy and productive seasons and it wasn’t enough to make the Pens a playoff team, let alone a Cup contender.

So do they rebuild? And if they do, what do they do with those guys? If you keep them around, they’ll probably stop you from bottoming out. And either guy would net you a king’s ransom if you traded them at 50% retained.

The right thing to do there is to tear it down. The youngest skater on the team that is any good is 28 and most of the good players are 31-37.

Its over. Let the core pick where they want to go, extract as much as you can and move on.

that is the right thing, but emotionally difficult. Only a Scotty Bowman/Bill Belichick type could do that.
