Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Hiring a dinosaur to replace Dubas following another first round exit would be one thing.

But hiring a dinosaur that’s also a proven loser like Treliving would be beyond the pale.

How can this not be considered a loophole in the CBA?

Do other teams/owners not care because they like the flexibility this gives playoff teams (that their season is not a write-off if one of their stars is seriously injured before the playoffs)?

But to have players miraculously recover for game 1 of the playoffs? It's bullshit.

well, can't get too mad at Vegas - they could get under the cap right now just by dropping an extra forward or two.

not like Boston, who was able to just keep a healthy Hall on ltir for a few extra weeks, then did fake DL stints for Forbort and Foligno to get Hall back on the roster.

Forbort is playing in game 1 of course. I'm sure Foligno is imminent. Which should have forced them to put 2-3 guys through waivers who wouldn't have made it through like Zboril, Frederic, Greer.

there really needs to be a rule where players coming off of LTIR are not eligible for the first 3-5 games of the playoffs. im not sure there has ever been a legit case of a guy coming off ltir for game one of the playoffs

Just make it so that you can only roster a team that is under the cap - simple. No roster/salary restrictions as far as the players available post-deadline - but the on-ice team cannot cost out above the cap limit.

doesn't really do the trick though. it just lets teams sit their worst contracts.

There will never be a rule like that because it'll prevent guys legitimately coming off injury from playing.

You’re right that the NHL will never do anything to fix this.

But never in the history of the salary cap era has there ever been a player who was legitimately injured at the end of the season and for reals recovered just in time to start the playoffs. Every single case has been cap circumvention.

So, I like the idea of setting a second deadline after the trade deadline. Maybe a week prior to the end of the regular season, all teams must reactivate any players who’ll be taking part in the first round and become cap compliant.

Any players not reactivated from LTIR by that date won’t be eligible for round 1.
