Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Give a new town a shot, don't go back to Atlanta. Besides, they're in the western conference. I don't see them coming east.

The NHL has been so successful in so many southern markets that they really shouldn't care that much about preserving Phoenix just because it's southern.

Marner for Keller and Crouse?

EK baby. I want to see an uber elite offensive dynamo playing D for us just once this lifetime.

It would be so fun with the current crop of players.

Unsurprising. Gary ain’t giving up on Arizona that easily.

And I’m sure the other owners are keen to keep them there playing out of a pee wee arena and hemorrhaging money in order to artificially drag down the cap ceiling & inflate the players’ escrow payments.

Not to mention their utility as a dumping ground for bad contracts for the rest of the league.

The cities that make the dough will always make the dough, they've pretty much maximized those profits so they're trying to find money elsewhere. Problem is they have no clue about emerging markets.

Ideally, you just want your smallest markets to break even on money made locally (gate, concession, local TV) and the profit from league wide profit share and national TV contract splits. The billionares are then mostly concerned with inflated asset increase overall, that's where they make their real money. Buy for 800 million, sell for 1.3 billion in 10 years, etc.

What fucks it up for everyone else is junk ass markets like Phoenix (and Atlanta when it existed) and okay, just okay markets when the team is struggling (San Jose, Anaheim, Sens, etc), not selling tickets, and has a mediocre or worse local TV deal (San Jose had a famously terrible local TV deal for a bunch of years, no idea what it is now).
