Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Was interesting in that Athletic article to hear how fast Dubas was on a flight to Pittsburgh. Fired Friday, on a flight to Pittsburgh Saturday.

I thought he was doing both roles for now? Or is the hiring it a GM imminent?
 
Meh, the only thing we need to worry about from Dubas/Spezz is at this years draft table IMO. Pittsburgh is riding off into the sunset with Washington and Boston for the forseeable future.

How can you not like Sid's rants? He, like myself, is just a messenger. Don't hate us just because you don't like to hear the unpleasant truth. Reality doesn't care about your feelings and Sid is right. Dubas was just a punk who thought he knew everything and all he did was repeatedly fail. Then, instead of learning from his mistakes, he doubled down because he, like you, couldn't accept uncomfortable truths about the team he had assembled. He just kept trying to pound square pegs into round holes because proving himself to be right and salvaging his reputation was more important than anything else.

Dubas is president and apparently only interim GM. There is no actual GM there at the moment i don't think.

Spezza was only a "special assistant to the GM" here in toronto, not assistant GM.

That seems to be a pretty huge promotion for Spezza, despite only being an exec for one season.


Then again, Dubas does like having a whole crapload of assistant GMs.

Spezza is now the Dwight Schrute of the NHL: not Assistant General Manager but merely Assistant TO the General Manager.

He is a loud boomer blowhard that caters to the lowest form of sports fan by ranting and raving like an upset boomer calling in a radio show. He has just enough sports knowledge to seem intelligent to a very stupid person, but he hasnt a clue. I will cede that he is very good at pushing the buttons of the very stupid, but thats hardly a reason to respect him.

Marc Bergevin always maintained that it was good to hire your buddies so that you could all sit in a room and throw f-bombs at each other. That was apparently the key to building a winner.

He's only hiring meat puppets. Dubas is pulling all the strings. The people he's hiring are just cannon fodder to be sacrificed when his genius master plans inevitably fail.

If you hated the Capitals as much as you hate the Leafs, you would have been repeatedly posting this nonsense on a Caps board before Washington won the Cup.

And Sid's rants are some of the most annoying things I've ever seen or heard.

That 10 minute rip on the Leafs Sid did a few years back on Sportsnet was epic. I've rewatched that clip more times than I've watched Casablanca.

If what Sid says wasn't the truth the rants wouldn't annoy you so much. You are annoyed because (to paraphrase Colonel Jessep in "A few Good Men") deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you know he's right.
