Oh, I doubt that. I'm not a big Scheifele guy (the production is a lot of empty calories imo) but 8.5 million is likely high 2nd #2C money in a few years. We're talking about PLD, Horvat money in the current economy. Scheifele probably remains that level of player for 4-5 years.

As for Helly, he's big, super technically sound, with no chronic injuries while being a consistent top 5 goalie for almost a decade now. He's a better bet to live up to this contract than any of the other big goalie contracts given out to veteran goalies in recent years (Price, Bob).

Gibson is probably the cautionary tale here but 3 years as an elite starter before getting paid (and immediately turning into a pumpkin) is different than 8 years I'd think.
