Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Those are great contracts for the Jets. I gotta think, at least with CH, there was little interest in him in the trade
market (Apparently they tried to move him)

I'm legit curious what the reasoning is behind Edmonton being better this year than they were last year? Is the argument that Edmonton was good enough to win last year but just didn't? Connor & Leon both had career high seasons (by a lot), the PP was full on legendary, their secondary scoring forwards had immense years (RNH's cracked his career high by 37 points, Zach broke his by 29). Is that the expectation going forward? That Connor is now a 150+ points a year player, and no one particularly important is going to miss more than a few games and if they do the replacement in the lineup will have a career year?

They're obviously a very good team, but life is a lot different when your career 50 point guys aren't putting up 80-100 points anymore. Last year feels like a high water mark and a missed opportunity to me, not a sign of things to come. We've moved on from the "Kailer Yamamoto is Connor's best winger????" stage in the Oil Change story but I don't know if I buy them as a cup winning team short of last year's fairy dust not having worn off yet. Yeah, if Zach is PPG+ and RNH finished top 10 in scoring again, the league might be in trouble.

basically because they got scorching hot after they added Ekholm. so there's a sense that that's the new normal.

model-wise the model's in love with Bouchard.

Dallas is really great in the West. I find they are overlooked a bit.

My issue with Dallas is that they're pretty dependent on olds in key roles. Seguin hasn't exactly aged gracefully and is almost 32, Benn had his first season where he earned most of his contract in the last 4-5 years, Pavelski is a million years old and their 3rd-4th best player. Suter is likewise, a million years old and their 2nd or 3rd most important defender, what is 34 yr old Dadanov?

I want to see how their olds look this year before getting on that band wagon. I like how deep they are upfront in theory and I like how balanced and good their Robbie/Hintz/Heiskanen/Oettinger core is, but I'm not sure if it's enough if the olds decline.

The Benn/Seguin deals are the killer. 18.5 per on those 2 (Imagine if they were Leafs!) And Benn had a comeback year last year. Can't see him following it-up. But they are the best organization in getting stars (Pun intended) in late 1st rounds and 2nd, 3rd rounds.
Marchment deal isn't looking too smart now either

Models have loved them ever since they got Ekholm.
