You need to be serious about TV contracts as they pertain to hockey. Simply put, they are never going to be big enough to matter except in Canada. And the way to get more Canadian TV money is to have more Canadian teams, not fewer. The NHL, unlike the NFL, MLB, and the NBA, is a gate-driven league. Bums in seats matter in a way that they don't in the other major sports. So yes, a full arena in Quebec or Ottawa or Winnipeg is more significant than a half-empty 5000 seat college arena in Phoenix with a regional TV deal.
Yeah, not sure you're aware but the NHL playoffs last 4 rounds, not just the one or two rounds in which the Leafs participate.
in 2023, in purely team-specific revenue, the disaster Coyotes playing out of a college arena had $120m in revenue compared to $128m for Ottawa.
They’re also fucked without sellouts.you guys can't be serious about QC.
Sens and Jets are permanent minnows even with full sellouts. Oilers would be the same if they didn't have McDavid.
Not if MLSE has anything to say about it.Ya QC is kind of silly with what's going on in Winnipeg.
Second GTHA team is the only Canadian market that makes sense. Instantly becomes one of the most valuable teams in the league. Probably never happen though.
That's what I said.
they'd for sure win a Cup before the LeafsI sincerely hope that a second NHL team setting up shop in Toronto never happens in my lifetime.
