Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

In the second half of the 2023-2024 regular season, Alexis Lafrenière made significant contributions to the New York Rangers. His performance saw an improvement under the new coaching strategies, especially when placed on a line with Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin, which greatly benefited his offensive output. Also, his name roughly translates to “penis roach”.

You missed a part.

It’s kind of crazy that the Leafs are so good at finding and developing wingers (Robertson, Knies, Marchment, Moore, Brown, McMann, Holmberg, Engvall, Hyman etc) but they can’t develop a C or D to save their lives.

It’s crazy how good forsling is consider he was waiver fodder 3 years ago?

He was shit in Chicago too. Who knows what the hell they saw in him. Can we do that?

i'm scared we're going to overpay montour because we think he's their #1D when Forsling is easily and by far their #1D.

Montour isn’t forsling but he’s eating big minutes on long playoff runs in all situations two years in a row. You could do worse.

but even the minutes are deceiving - he's getting MASSIVE PP minutes, while being the clear #3 at evens (and never playing PK).

For whatever reason, he thrived under Quenneville in Chicago. Once Q was fired, Forsling's development seemed to stall badly. Then he was dealt to the Canes (who had a pretty deep blueline). Couldn't crack that lineup & was put on waivers. Florida claims him (where oddly enough, Quenneville was the head coach there)....and the rest is history (Forsling progressed to a point that even when Quenneville was axed, it didn't seem to effect him too much).

edit: And the Canucks were the team that first drafted him but Jim Benning dealt him for an AHL defenseman who could barely skate that level of hockey.

His likely contract isn't really #1 money anymore either. I've seen 7.7 thrown around and that would have ranked him 25th among defencemen in cap hit this season. Going forward he's going to be into #2 money as early as the 1st season of the contract, which isn't bad.

He still gets a ton of ES minutes. 15th overall and 33nd per game.

They don’t play Forsling as much as other teams play their top D ES.
