Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

That sound you hear is Gary Bettman sobbing

Most exciting player in the league up against a team from one of the biggest US metro areas and they're getting US ratings that resemble 2nd division women's ncaa basketball on the ocho

31 years. 31 fucking years and the nhl is lower on the totem pole then when he got the job. he's a wnba player equivalent of commissioners. it would be hard to try and do a worse job then he has done

This schedule just made it even worse. The casuals left with the ridiculous 2 games in 10 says.

More context

1% of American sized pie is just as good as 10% of a Canadian pie

Context. Not America's sport. Never will be.

NHL finals should still be drawing more than this. Nobody is expecting the place to shut down like it does for the Superbowl. But Boston-Dallas game 2 just did 14 million.

Go back to 2000 and the NHL finals averaged 3.7 million to the NBA's 10.6

The game just hasn't grown.

Ya but nobody in the US cares about edm fla. It’s a nightmare for the league.

Not just Edmonton-Florida though. Even recent finals with 2 major US markets only sneaks into the ~4 million range. The same or less than similar matchups were doing 20 years ago.

I mean a regular season Dodgers-Yankees game Saturday drew in 2.9m viewers. Game 1 just edged it out, and was still the #2 sporting event of the day behind the Belmont Stakes. But the NHL really needs one of the "real" hockey teams to make the finals for anyone to care about it. It's really weird that people in Florida don't want to watch hockey in June.

The game really hasn't grown since Gary took over. NHL is further from the other sports, and have been passed by many others since 92'
Yes, "Revenues" are up, but it's less of an increase as the other sports.
They desperately need someone to inject new ideas in how to promote the game.
