Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Am I the only one confused why young NHL players are still signing deals like this for their best years?

I dunno. I’m never confused by a young player deciding to play it safe and secure the bag, rather than gambling that they’ll be able to ultimately get more in the long run by “betting on themselves”.

As long as he manages his financial affairs somewhat competently, he’s now set for life at age 22, no matter what happens with his health, career & future performance.

Seems pretty awesome to me. Not everyone is a gambler or a financial risk-taker.

It juts seems to happen more in hockey than any other sport. With the cap going up after COVID, not sure these deals should be continuing

Players are smart to do this , secure your bag and there is more money at 30 if your still good

WTF are you risking injury or poor play trying to make maybe an extra 10-15% if all goes well after a bridge deal

This isnt the NBA where your looking at 200 mil fortunes , take the fucken money and sleep at night

Other athletes do. NHL players have to start being more cutthroat
League revenues are nowhere near other sports and probably never will

The super elite can play the short term AAV deal and hope to cash in a few more times

Seth would of got about 5ish on a bridge deal then hope he doesnt get hurt and the cap goes up

Many players got fucked during the covid years of frozen budgets and escrow and didnt cash in .

5 years ago with a cap $7m below the current cap, tkachuk coming off of a similar season to Jarvis’s 23-24 got $7m.

Jarvis is not AM and never will be

AM secured his bag plus gets a reported 3-5 mil in yearly endorsements
Ya I mean Matthews did the opposite of what you’re saying securing the bag means. He’s gotten paid more money on short term deals AND gets tons more in endorsements.

What are you even arguing?

I got playing in safe during COVID, but not sure why so many still do it. I thought Faber signing 8 years was idiotic.
