Pretty iffy on that target tbh.
That 30 goal season on 15% shooting was clearly fluky, but outside of that he's still been able to be a solid 20/50 type guy at a very young age and without a ton of support. There could easily be room to get him back to that 30/70 level even without a fluke shooting percentage, just on age and development and linemates. His nerdies have taken a plunge this year, but in previous years were solid enough relative to team, and it doesn't seem like he was ultra sheltered either. Really hard to tell if he can actually handle C when playing on a team like the Sabres.
$7.1m caphit isn't huge, but still you need that guy to be a legit quality two-way 2nd liner at that price or I guess a one-way 1st liner would make it worth it too. Both of those upsides are possible but it's just really hard to tell on a shitty team like that. One hand a lot of Sabres blossom elsewhere (Eichel, Reinhart, Hagel), but otoh now the Avs are stuck with Mittelstadt as their #2C and he's probably just an ok 2nd line winger in reality.
