Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Not against using knies to get a top d but don’t think byram is that guy.

Neither do I, but if you're trading away a 23 yr old top 4 defender on pace for 40 point, you definitely think he's worth the 22 yr old top 6 winger scoring at a 57 point pace on the other side.

I definitely wouldn't do it, but I don't doubt someone else would pay a similar price. Again, I don't think that's an organization looking to turn 23 yr olds into 18-19 yr olds.

I think it would cost Knies for sure, plus something else. Byram is tempting, but I don't know that I'd want to pay the price. I am definitely interested in him, though.

Sabres do need to trade for proven players. The days of getting prospects back have to be over. What is this 15 straight years of no playoffs? Gotta do something drastic.
10 years ago people said when Babcock was choosing where to coach that the Sabres were stack and had an amazing future...

Since LOF isn’t here to defend his son, I’ll step into the breach for him—not a chance in hell would I trade Knies for Byram.

I’d rather not trade Knies at all because I think he’s exactly the kind of player who could prove very valuable in the playoffs.

And because the only way I’d trade him is if it’s part of a package for a proven legit stud D with years of his prime left. Not for a young D who’s older than Knies but less proven and would be yet another LHD on top of all that.

When I said sell the farm I didn't mean trade one of our best NHLers.

That said a Knies/Byram deal wouldn't be bad. Their impacts are similar, and both get the benefit of elite quality of teammates. Byram is 6th in u 24 dman 5v5 g/60 and 3rd in p/60, Knies is 3rd in 5v5 g/60 and 12th in p/60. Plus paying a dman is better than paying a winger.

Not to say they should trade Knies, but more showing how impactful Byram has been for his age. If you can get him for a package of our top prospects then obviously do it.

The problem over there fwiw is that Power isn't remotely close to being a stud and isn't really any better than Byram. So they're in the position of having to pay 3 defenders something like 26 million next year while only one of them is good.

I think Buffalo's problem is their GM is bad, and their coach is worse and they should get rid of them before getting rid of more of their end end talent young players.

Hard to gauge a player's exact value playing in a shitshow like the Sabres, but he seems to grade out reasonably well for Dom.

Buffalo is intentionally tanking, there just was no other reason to hire a washed up Lindy Ruff to coach this heap. When you see Lindy Ruff stone-faced on the bench watching these guys attempt to play hockey - it's pretty obvious.

I thought Ruff got screwed last year by being fired. At this point he' s pretty much better than any coach they've hired since he was last there.
