Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

He: isn't getting its anyways.... His caps are are getting old and he is slowing down.
It will be the Marleau treatment.
keeps playing till he gets it at 50.

Ovi's "No More War" response was so fucking weak. He was afraid of upsetting Putin by criticizing him.

It was a vague response carefully crafted by his Russian handlers.

Designed so that the headlines in North America would make it look like he was against the war, when he was actually calling for Ukrainians to lay down their arms and accept Russian dominion over them.

Ovie has been promised his own oligarchy when he retires. After living the lavish american life I can't see wanting to be back in Russia.

His entire family is back there now and he's massively connected. Near 100% chance he goes back post career if anything resembling the Russian status quo returns.

As trade rumours around Miller continue to swirl, head coach Bruce Boudreau joked that the only way he’d be able to get on board with a Miller trade would be if Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid was the piece coming back to the Canucks in return.

“If we got McDavid in return I’d say it’s okay,” said Boudreau with a laugh when asked about how much losing Miller would affect his team. “We don’t even talk about it, I haven’t talked one iota about J.T. getting traded. He’s the cornerstone right now — one of the cornerstones of our team, so we just go on. To me, that’s all noise. It makes for great media, and I love reading it all when they talk about trade deadline stuff, but nobody’s talked to me about anything.”

And if they did deal him, I think the cost would be enormous considering how he's going and that he has another year.

I've sort of written off that possibility at this point.

i dont' see why vancouver would trade any of Miler/Pettersson/Boeser/Garland/Horvat/Hoglander/Hughes/Demko. THat's a nice core.
which is exactly why they will trade them for pennies on the dollar so they can afford the next Antoine Roussel and Jay Beagle

This feels like the longest season ever. I can't believe the deadline is still weeks away and there are still another 30 games to be played.

Yeah, I hear ya.

It’s an absurdly long prologue to the test that really matters, which this team has failed repeatedly up until now.

And while there’s entertainment value in watching the games of course, nothing they do makes me feel better or worse about their playoff chances.

True. We're in need to see it to believe it mode. But you have to believe this talent is going to break through. The team has gotten better and better every year (playoff results notwithstanding). And this current iteration is the best Leafs team I've ever seen.

You can point to areas where a trade could improve us, but we're not bad in any spot as long as we stay relatively healthy. There's no weak link, or shit fourth line, to do us in. The goalies are the biggest question mark, but they could easily be our biggest strength come playoff time because who the fuck knows when it comes to G.

I like our chances, and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters. Because say we won a few rounds over the last few years - so what if it didn't result in a cup? But if we had, then we'd be viewed as every other contending team going into the postseason - as in, is it our year? Instead, it's the nonstop focus on getting out of the first round, which is basically a nothingburger compared to winning four rounds.
