It's post trade deadline, so teams like Arizona can't use him in the playoffs.
I think that rule is only for players who are traded, not claimed on waivers. and yes, I know it was a joke anyways. It's post trade deadline, so teams like Arizona can't use him in the playoffs.
I love that by the end, he shows that the net take home pay for one year after all expenses is still more that the majority of people will make in a lifetime. And we still have expenses.Lol I absolutely love this.
Chris Pronger: A lot of people think $30 million USD is a lot over five years. But did you know that hockey players also need to pay taxes and spend money on transportation, food, and a place to live? I bet you didn't think about that.
someone should tweet this at himwonder if chris pronger factors in the extra wedding bands he needed to buy to replace the ones he lost trying to discretely slip them off while chatting up women in bars.
Yeah, these guys can make money off their "fame" after they retire. Even the fringe guys are minor celebs in their home town or the markets they played in. They'll do shitty commercials or sign autographs at a local sporting store. Some will go into broadcasting or real estate... selling cars. The other thing of course, is that most of these players retire around 37.
regular people need to work another 30 years after that….and nothing is stopping these players from developing another skill for the second act of their lives
I heard Gary Leeman is a skilled apiarist now.
100%. They provide the labour that we use as entertainment. I'd rather them get paid a shit ton than some old dude who fell into family money taking it all.For the record, I believe that athletes deserve to make a shit ton of money and I don't begrudge them a single dollar. Just don't try to tell me that you don't really make that much.
I also don't begrudge the owners. Not for making money off their investment in a team. Especially the ones that spend to the cap and don't whine about it.100%. so many leaderbeans
It really does underline how fucked hockey culture is, that this guy was projected as the ultimate leader.
To NHL folks winning = leadership, that's it, that's all.
plus the players do get a pension (if they play enough games)Yeah, these guys can make money off their "fame" after they retire. If they just don't absolutely go stupid with their money they can easily live a pretty damn good life without having to bust their asses going forward.
The guys that signed $30m deals could easily never have to work another day in their lives and be very comfortable.
