Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I think Kadri's agent has a contract ready to go, and are just waiting on the timing. Personally, I think he'll be an Av.

looks like Kadri fucked up.

don’t really buy that teams are working to dump cap to pay him but we’ll see.

the lack of activity is weird though. Don’t get why the Leafs would hold onto guys they have to dump. A Kerfoot/holl trade isn’t that difficult.

Any time we see a GM want to clear space to add a guy, they seem to be able to do it in a snap. So yeah, this salary cap calculus that some team is working on to add him, I don't buy it. And there seem to be a lot of dominoes hanging around, whether UFAs like Nino, or obvious trades like Kerf/Holl. There must be one or two situations holding everything up.

something's up. too eerily quiet around the league. suspect there is a big deal holding everything up and then the dominoes fall. guess we'll see.

Yeah, I was just thinking this might be it.

Team-elected salary arbitration is pretty much always a death-knell for a player's chances of staying with their current team. Seems like the Flames just wanted to remove the possibility of an offer sheet in order to maintain as much control as possible over the potential return for Tkachuk.

On Tkachuk's end, what's the point in sticking around when the team didn't even come close to getting through the tissue-soft West, and then went on to lose Gaudreau for nothing in the off-season?

Depending on where he would sign an extension, there's a lot of teams with a combination of good young/in prime players that can salary match whatever his ask is going to be (9.5+ I'm guessing)

Crazy. So Calgary is basically done and rebuilding. Johnny Hockey literally took hockey away from them when he left.

That eliminates them as a possibility for Kadri then.

More importantly, who is getting Tkachuk. He's a gamer. Wonder if they'd like to be stupid and give him to us for a collection of guys we don't need plus picks and prospects. Would have to subtract Muzz and Kerf to fit him, who Calgary could flip elsewhere, and then Knies and a 1st or something like that. Would probably need to have a three-team deal in place, if we were doing anything, but I doubt we are.
