No they can't. You keep believing this fantasy that this team that cant make it past the first round is also on the precipice of multiple Cups. That assertion is not backed up by anything other than wishing and hoping, just like your Marner fantasy. The reality is that the Leafs are a mediocre team that gets fat and happy on regular season wins against teams that mail it in.
McDavid would need to stop caring about chasing Cups in order to consider playing for the Leafs. Anyone can see that this team is going nowhere. You can either be a Leaf or chase Cups but you cant do both.
McDavid will be signed to an extension this summer and your delusion about how every player with an Ontario birth certificate wanting to be a Leaf will once again be crushed.

If Leafs played LA yearly there would be a different perspective about them.
Id agree had we not faced likes of Montreal, Columbus etc. LA would've definitely knocked the Leafs out on multiple occasions.

Florida is one of the best teams of the cap era. So is Tampa.
But at the end of the day the Core 4 was supposed to be a dynasty too, so not being as good as the best teams is still just a massive disappointment.

With 16 gone and an aging 91 ( if retained ) combined with an immobile D and Morgan looking like crap this year ....much work to be done to finish this puzzle.

Which is exactly why I tell Leafs fans that McDavid would be a fool to go from a team that's been to back-to-back finals to one that struggles to win one round every 3 years. Leafs fans seem to believe that they're the Oilers without 97. They are so far behind the Oilers it's not even close.

To beat the Panthers you cannot play from behind. Allowing the first goal (and second) is a recipe for losing. While not all Skinner goals were trash, there were enough to put the Oilers on their heels and the Oilers aren’t a team that can play from behind against a structured D.
Panthers were the better team no doubt but Skinner consistently put the Oilers behind the 8 ball.
