Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

Sparkling nerd stats aside, it’s a tough sell to Columbus fans to trade Werenski for a package centered around a 26 year-old defenseman whose career highs are 7 goals & 31 points.

Much more difficult than the guy they just targeted—Thomas Harley—who’s 24 and has seasons of 15 & 16 goals and 47 & 50 points under his belt already.

The other things too is roster balance. Even without Werenski, Columbus would have a pretty solid blueline. Mateychuk is probably a stud. Severson is real gud. Provorov a solid 2-3. They need lots of help up front though.

Even so, they pulled the trigger on trading Werenski for another D in Harley.

Makes you wonder if they have a strong preference for getting a significant defenseman back, if they specifically preferred Harley over Knies or if Chayka simply hasn’t been willing to offer Knies.

Whatever the case may be, get it done burger boy.

I think Harley is just a much better piece than Knies. And Dallas has interesting secondary pieces like Bourque. It was always gonna be tough to beat that offer.

Moser vs Knies is closer. Moser may be more impactful, Knies is more sexy. And the leafs can put together better secondary pieces than Tampa.

Ouch. I have no idea who he is but if he's Nick Robertson, then ew.

Anyways, Harley is still >> Knies so I get why Columbus preferred that over Moser and Knies.

I think Harley was a no brainer though. 23 yr old Harley was almost as good as Weresnki himself. Had he not had a down year as a 24 yr old you wouldn't even offer him. Already a higher end #1 defender himself. If you're Columbus, the idea of getting a 24 yr old Werenski back for Werenski, and then getting a bag of stuff on top of that would be too good to pass up.
