Around The League - 2024-25 Regular Season

There has to be more to the Gaudreau story. He knows the coaches, friends with some of the players, family from Ohio?

He and his wife are from NJ. Family was a pure BS excuse / PR play

He simply wanted out of Canada is my guess and went to highest bidding US team… which is his right BTW

That Farber take is the take of a casual fan. Saw Lehkonen win the cup and assumed Habs got fleeced
Just like the Eller brigade a few years ago when he won a Cup in DC. The league is lousy with players like that. We replaced Eller with Lehkonen and we'll replace Lehkonen too.

It also ignores the fact that 2 teams can “win” a trade based on their circumstances.

Wonder if the Calgary media was wringing their hands because Nieuwendyk won a cup with Dallas, or were they happy with their Iginla acquisition?

Or the Chelios for Savard deal. We won a Cup with Savard while Chicago won nothing with Chelios. Assuming that winning Cups is the goal you can't say that we lost that trade. Winning validates everything.

We would have maybe won 2 more with Chelios on the team....

Ever think of that...
Don't think so. The team went into rapid decline soon after 93 and we were unlikely to knock off Pittsburgh in 91 or 92.

But you never know how fate would have worked or events intertwined by not having made that trade I suppose. Heavy. But yes, player for player it was a disaster.
